SAYING GOODBYE TO 'SUIT & STUBBLE'

Back in 2006 Aramis Pacitto & I started something new... We created a comedy series idea called "Life is Hell." Between 2006 and 2012 we had our first experiences in the film industry, we met with managers, agents and we even pitched our idea to CBC and CTV. They were all learning experiences to say the least... But those experiences brought us to coming up with several new ideas, one of which we created a web series on. THE CHALLENGER. The end of 2012 marked the filming of our first film by Suit & Stubble Productions, The Challenger - Short Film. It was far off of the concept that Aramis and I wanted to showcase. That disappointing film made us more determined than ever to make the next Challenger a sure case of proof of concept. We accomplished that. "The Challenger: Unlimited" was released in August 2013 and it kick started a web series filled with six films over the course of two years from 2013-2015. It was by far our greatest accomplishment thanks to a great team effort...

Once the series ended we went on to make two more films ("Deep Trouble" & "Visions of Violence"). "Deep Trouble" was written and created by Aramis Pacitto. It's a truly remarkable story, with a great mix of action and drama. "Visions of Violence" is another film Aramis wrote and created and has a very suttle story that is compelling enough to make a short film leave you with a  feeling like you've watched a feature film. After those films were filmed and edited we had planned to do a film I wrote called "100 Black Coffin's." But we unfortunately didn't end up putting it into production due to wedge that had divided the "Suit & Stubble" team in half. If that film would have been made, our unite may have still continued to produce films.  But after the events that led to that decision and several other events that happened over the course of three to four months, we had decided on a professional level that it was best we both head in separate directions. People who have seen "Deep Trouble" ask me if there will be a sequel... I believe there is going to be, but if there is my involvement will be no more than a cameo.

My experience with Aramis Pacitto and our production company was amazing. It brought out something in me that I never knew I had... I used to think I can just be a screenwriter, which is a dream on it's own. But those films, Challenger in particular showed me I can be much more. I have thanked everyone involved in those films many times and it will never be enough. "Suit & Stubble" was a fun experience, one I will carry with me throughout the rest of the projects I work on and throughout my life.

Thanks again to everyone for their help and support it couldn't have been done without you.

DARK JUSTICE FILMS (The Final Chapter) - November 2014 to February 2015

THE 'Dark Justice' UNIT:   Andrew Di Pardo, Aramis Neal Pacitto &  Ashlee Martina
With Vito Sundano, Neva Rowell & Marc Samuels
Producers: Angelo Di Pardo & Frank Pacitto

STORY BEHIND THE TITLE:  DARK JUSTICE

Back in August 2014, with "The Challenger" series finale currently in production. Aramis Pacitto and I felt that we wanted to do more 'Challenger' films. But we didn't want to continue our web series, we wanted to go back and start from the beginning. So we came up with a new mini-series idea that would last for three 15 minute films. We came up with an idea of a 'darker' Rick Sledge that would be fighting crime without the help of Gunnerson or Strike. He would be going solo up against the likes of a new variation of Antonio Ricci and Walker along with the Irish Mob. We completed the script and found that our theme was about getting justice in dark ways. So we called the film "Dark Justice." Next was casting. Chika Mafiana was all set to reprise his role as Walker and Aramis was returning as Rick Sledge, the rest of the cast would be filled with new faces. Neva Rowell was casted as Holly Rawls... This film was fully casted and ready to shoot, but we felt that after doing a web series on "The Challenger" that it was too early to go back and revisit the idea. So ultimately the idea was shelved for now. But we still wanted to do films. So Aramis and I decided to keep the "Dark Justice" title for a new series. A series where every film will be in black and white... A series of 4 different " Dark Justice tales."

MJ-12 :  A film full of disasters

MJ-12 was an idea that Aramis and I came up with involving a top secret government operation that was in affiliation with the NSA. The Majestic 12's job is to stop TOP SECRET government operations/secrets from getting to the press.  This film followed Nick Foster, a man that has been framed for the murder of his friend Danielle and the NSA documents that he has in his possession. MJ-12 framed him and now has every cop in the city looking for him and those confidential documents. Nick and his girlfriend Joanna are on the run trying to escape Agent 7 & Agent 8 who are everywhere. They have eyes and ears in the streets. I ended up writing this script solo and it turned out really well and had potential to be one of our best films. But it didn't live up to it's potential... I casted myself as the main lead (Nick) and I casted an actress to play Joanna... My acting in this film was not believable and on top of that... I had no chemistry with the main actress. Aramis was casted as Agent 7 and Justin Moses (who played Mr. Black in "The Challenger") was casted as Agent 8. They were amazing! Neva Rowell (who was casted as Holly in the cancelled "Challenger" film) was casted as Danielle. She was great. Marc Samuels was brought on board as director and camera operator. So this film will never be released in it's current state... Main reason, my acting was bad, had no chemistry with the other main lead and the camera work was amateurish at points along with the worst audio we has since my very first film. This film other than the script and a few good actors was our biggest disaster yet and will not be released.

DEEP TROUBLE:  As classy and old fashioned as you can get

Deep Trouble is a script written by Aramis Neal Pacitto. It's a story about loss, regret and love. It follows John Bray who's coming out of retirement to help a damsel in distress named Alexa. A killer is out there and is killing people with a special poison that comes in a vile. Alexa has been given the vile and she has 24 hours to drink it. John Bray and Alexa used to be lovers and because of that, John feels obligated to help her. "Blue eyed Alexa, the angle."  Despite the disappointment of MJ-12 we brought back Marc Samuels as camera operator and Neva Rowell as PA. Our new crew at this moment had expanded from just  two people to four. It started with just Aramis and I, but now we had Marc and Neva on board with us for the entire 'Dark Justice' series (so we thought). Casting for this film was simple. Three cast members... Me as Quick, Aramis as John Bray and a new actress who's never worked with us before named Ashlee Martina as Alexa. This film turned out really great. One of our best acted and shot films... After what happened with MJ-12, it felt really good to get back on the right track... This film has everything you would want from a 'Suit & Stubble' film... Action, suspense, drama and even a little bit of comedy. Ashlee and Aramis on screen together had instant chemistry and are the reasons why the film turned out the way it did. After editing was done, this film was sent to Varia Studios to upgrade the audio and give it the movie feel that it needed and Vito Sundano delivered just like he did with "The Challenger 7: Broken Hope."

VISIONS OF VIOLENCE:  As British as it gets

Visions of Violence was another script written by Aramis Neal Pacitto. The story centred around Granite... Roy Granite, a hitman for hire. Darke is another hitman on the block and he's made a bet with Grainte.  Grainte vs Drake, winner gets 10 million and the loser... Well dies. Our new crew returned for this film except instead of one or two of the members being in the film... We all were. Marc Samuels played a small role of a doctor and was the main camera operator. Neva Rowell played the main women lead of Felicia. Aramis played the role of Roy Granite and I played the role of Drake.  I love playing Villains. This was my second time doing it and this time was even more fun especially since this was a tougher character than I usually play. This film has a James Bond like feel to it, as the two main leads (Aramis & Neva) were doing accents and just the whole set up felt like the way Ian Fleming intended Bond from the books to be. Its not Bond by any means, but it does have the 007 feel. You'll see when you see the film.  Vito Sundano once again works his Varia magic in the studio to make this film turn out as great as its intended to be.

"May the best killer win."

Crew Change: MEET THE NEW CREW & COLLABORATORS

After "Visions of Violence" our crew had a big change for 2015... Due to difference of opinions, Marc Samuels went his own way. In his place we brought on board the women who played Alexa in "Deep Trouble" as our new GO TO director and actress for our planned films.  Ashlee Martina became a member of "Suit and Stubble Productions" along with me and Aramis. We called ourselves the A.A.A. team.  Vito Sudano was our Audio guy in post production and we planned to have him come on set now and then. Angelo Di Pardo & Frank Pacitto were still on board as our producers. This was our new team...

100 BLACK COFFINS:   Falling Down

After expanding the team... Things got dicey down at "Suit & Stubble." We had plans to shoot a film that I wrote called "100 Black Coffins" in March with an all star cast. We had several faces that acted in "The Challenger 7: Broken Hope" such as Adam Bossio (Giovanni Ricci), Cynthia Stone (Holly Rawls), Agata Waclawska (Aryn Sky), Aramis Pacitto ("The Challenger") and me (Gunnerson) with Neva Rowell (Felicia from Visions of Violence). Our audio guy, Vito also planned to do the audio on set. So with filming dates and rehearsals set up plans for the film started to fall apart.  Due to a conflict between Aramis and I (Which will not be disclosed), plans for what was going to be our LAST Youtube film came to a close... The A.A.A Unit never saw a day on set together. The unit lasted no longer than a month. We were falling down with the cast standing round, the only question was... How far and how bad would we fall? We didn't want to see that question through and so we ended it before things got worse...

THE NEXT STEP: Enter THE CHALLENGER

The main reason we ended our ties with the post-Challenger films was so we can keep the possibility of getting "The Challenger" on network TV alive... In this debate it was key to stay on good terms if we ever wanted to do "The Challenger" on a larger scale. So even though "Suit & Stubble Productions" is no more... The Challenger still lives on and we are planning to potentially do this series on a larger scale. We have been in talks with people about this for quite some time and we're getting close as some new people have entered the discussions... We have even been pushing to get this vigilante a cameo in another online series as well, but that idea may or may not happen for quite a while. So we hope to bring "The Challenger" back in some form in what we're calling our "Post-Youtube" stage....

THE CHALLENGER 7: BROKEN HOPE - July to December 2014

Back in July after rapping up production for the season 2 finale of "The Challenger" (Dark Triad), Aramis and I were set on continue the legacy of Rick Sledge but the question was... For how long? We decided that Season 3 was going to be the final season and we would end it with three final films. The titles were : Born to Kill, Born to Die & Born to Live... We called it "the born" season. After we got our first cast for film 6 (Born to Kill), we started to film. Due to several reasons, some of the actors and actresses didn't end up finishing filming with us. So after filming about 30% of The Challenger 6, we were back at square one... No cast which equals, no film... So we had this plan to film all three of the "born" films at once. So we began casting. Cynthia Stone was originally casted to play Strike, but due to a month of loss of connection, the role was handed over to Niki Tassioulis. But that was for film 7... Priority one was of course to get film 6 done.... After reconnecting with Cynthia Stone, she was given the role of Holly Rawls. Following the casting of Holly Rawls, the rest of the cast fell into place and the film turned out great... Filming Challenger 6,7 & 8 were planned to be filmed simultaneously, but after reconstructing the cast we decided to scrap the "born trilogy" idea and wrap up the series in just two films.

This discussion happened while Aramis and I were having dinner with Darius Ban (the man who plays Lucas Wolf).  Darius said, why drag out the series longer than it's meant to be... Aramis and I already felt that going beyond our original plan of ending the series with The Challenger 5: Dark Triad was already pushing the series further than it's meant to go... But Darius raised a valid point and both Aramis and I agreed. We felt that if we do the "finale" right than 6 films prior would serve their purpose. So we took the scripts for "The Challenger 7: Born to Die" and "The Challenger 8: Born to Live" and put them together into one film. Our first feature film. Other than the fact that we had to trim some of the sharp edges of the script... The story was there and so was the theme.  The theme was broken trust and the hope that things will be alright in the end. So we combinded the theme's and came up with the title... "Broken Hope." Next step before getting back on set was to not only cast a few more people, but was to cut the fat out of the two scrips so our feature wouldn't fell dragged on... What we did was, went back and rewatched the first 5 films and realized what worked and what didn't... A lot worked, The Challenger all around character was solid, but the Lawman aspect was too "out there" for our finale. So all 5 scenes the Lawman had in the finale were all cut. Gunnerson is still a vigilante, but since he's unknown and millions of people have the same description we felt that him wearing this mask had no meaning... So we cut the scenes from the script. That was the main aspect of the "Broken Hope" script that needed some fine tuning.

After fixing that, we went onto filming "The Challenger 6" and finishing casting for "The Challenger 7: Broken Hope."Agata Waclawska who was supposed to play Aryne Sky in film 6 was brought on board to be introduced in the finale as the leader of the Irish Mob.  She was great in that role, it's a shame we didn't bring her in earlier in the series.  This film also say the return of Marc Samuels as the Barracuda... Marc was great in that interrigation scene, you really feel for his character. More new faces that were added are: Daniel Haug as Liam, he was amazing and Gt Laberge as Drax a man with a bow staff that took out a few of The Challengers teeth. Onto the filming... DAY 1 was a long 12 hour day... Niki acted in her first scene as the badass Joesphine Strike, a Vigilante who like the Challenger breaks the law to get the job done. Strike is the female Challenger. She dresses in a red leather jacket, white t-shirt and wears black leather pants. She has loads of confidence, never gives up and most of all has The Challengers back. This film opens up with Sledge and Gunnerson in a stand off, both have guns pointed at each other. Gunnerson believes the Challenger has killed several innocent people, but for the first time... He's wrong. Theres a copy cat Challenger on the loose and Gunnerson is blinded by anger that he can't see that. Strike breaks up this stand off and gets into a debate with The Challenger. The Challenger works alone, but Strike is like an annoying puppy that won't leave you alone... Invetiably they end up working together, when these two are together they seem unstoppable, until Provenzano sends out his army...

Meanwhile Gunnerson has found himself a new partner... Holly Rawls, shes after the copy-cat Challenger and insists Gunnerson works with her. They team up, but Holly has some other motives... Our biggest filming day was on a hot summer day in August.... 14 hours in the sun and in the shade. We started the day by filming all of Justin Moses (Mr. Black)'s scenes for "The Challenger 6" followed by all of his scenes for "The Challenger 7." We wrapped all 30 pages of footage that Justin was in in just 8 little hours. Two films in one day and he was amazing in both. Later on that day we filmed one of my personal favorite scenes, the one where The Challenger meets Giovanni Ricci (Adam Bossio) for the first time. Adam was amazing as Ricci, he was tough and confident something the Ricci prior lacked... But they were different characters. This was the most badass Challenger scene to date. Ricci shoots him and thinks he has won... But " You hit the ground 7 times... You get up 8." The Challenger roars back, cigar in hand and well... Watch the film for the rest. That day we also filmed Antonio Ricci's (Dino Mazza) return in a flahback, it was a really good scene between Giovanni and Antonio. It's one to remember.

At the 30 minute mark of this film, be prepared for the biggest twist of the series... A hero falls once again. You will not see this coming, it's one of the highlights of the series and a spoiler free hint is that both Sledge and Gunnerson are in the scene. From that scene onwards its all about the hunt for the big crime boss, Provenzano (Angelo Di Pardo), which leads to the final showdown... Provenzano was our most clever villain. He's been around since "The Challenger 2: Unlimited," but no one knew he was the boss. He hide in the shadows away from the lime light and not even The Challenger knew he was around until film 6. All things must come to a close in the series finale...That includes the full story of The CHALLENGER's ORIGIN. We will take you back to 2005, to a point where everything was sunshine and rainbows for Rick Sledge. He had his girlfriend, Brooklyn Astor (Cassandra Potenza) a job as a detective. But it was about to go from heaven on earth to hell when Lucas Wolf makes his return to LA. That flashback sequence is like a film within a film and is one of my favorite points of the film.

As for the original cast members... For me it was important to at least have one scene by every original cast member who was there when we began... So Mike Covello has a cameo as Mora, Dino Mazza has one as Antonio Ricci Jr and Chika Mafiana makes his return as Walker for the first time since film 5. Each and every cameo has a significant meaning and reason for why it's in the film... Weather it's loss, regret or a reminder of what everyones fighting for theres a reason.

After wrapping filming in August, Aramis Pacitto edited the film... It turned out great! But there were audio issues... Thats where Varia Sound comes in. We met this man named Vito Sundano and his nephew Nicola Sundano and we agreed to work on The Challenger audio together. From August until Christmas, we were hard at work... Each and every week we went to Varia studios and worked and worked at the audio, bringing levels that were dead, to being back alive to adding reverb, echo to where needed and much much much more... It was harder than writing, acting and filming. I can't speak for the editing talk to Mr. Pacitto about that. It was tough, but it was what we needed to do. About a month and a half into the audio editing, Nicola dropped out of the project for scheduling reasons. So it went from 4 to 3. Aramis, me and Vito. One day out of all the five months we spent on audio that stands out to me, was the day where we had to make the break noise... There was a scene where Ms. Sky was talking to Provenzano on the phone and the driver slammed the break so the car rocked back and forth and stopped. This was right before The Challenger ripped the driver out of the car. So we spent 5 hours coming up with that one sound. We mixed and recorded several different car noises until we eventually got it. That was the toughest Challenge we faced and it was just for a 7 second noise. It was tough, but worth while. This film will have clearer sound than we've ever had before. Watch out for this film when it hits the web on January 30... You won't want to miss the FINAL Challenge.
